Last night was a very long night. I woke at 2am with my stomach feeling really bad. I lay in bed until about 3am until I get up to throw up. I make it back to bed and get right back up to throw up. I don’t get back to sleep until about 4:30am. I wake at 5:30am feeling a little better. 10 minutes before Ollie picks me up for breakfast I throw up again. I hope I can make it through the morning game drive. At breakfast I’m talking with Gary, also on safari, and his wife and 2 other people were up sick last night. They are all in bed and not going on the morning safari. I only have coffee this morning because I’m not sure I can keep anything else down. It’s just me and Ollie for the morning game drive. Its cold this morning so I break out the jacket plus I’m not feeling 100%. We see a group of hippos hanging in the water, an elephant and giraffe. We get a radio call of a leopard kill. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the site but all that’s left is the half eaten impala, the leopard is gone. One less impala I have to see.
We head to morning coffee break at 10:30am. After break we check on the kill again to see if the leopard has returned. I see something moving as we approach the dead impala. Ollie slowly moves the vehicle for a better view. As we get closer a hyena runs off into the bush. We return to camp about 10:20am. I go relax in a chair by the fire pit, sleeping on and off, until the 3:30pm game drive. I’m still not feeling well but with the amount of money I paid for this trip there’s no way I’m missing a game drive. For the afternoon drive Ollie and I are joined by a Russian couple. She speaks very little English, he speaks none. We see two young waterbucks play fighting at the start of the drive.
During the drive they are asking Ollie to stop constantly. Ollie seems to be getting frustrated, I know I am. We stop at sunset for a beer then head back to camp. Besides the kill and this bird, which I’m still trying to indentify, there was nothing new today.
I was not really in the game drive today hopefully tomorrow I’ll be better. After getting cleaned up, all I have for dinner is a bowl of chicken soup then I’m in bed by 9:30pm. No fire pit tonight.
