City Lodge is a very nice place to stay in Auckland. If you are a wheelchair user, be aware it is located on a hill. It is about a 20 minute wheel down a couple big hills to the waterfront. The area by the waterfront is very accessible. There is a red bus line that has a ramp that will take you back up the hill close to City Lodge. It is a big downhill to get back to City Lodge from the bus stop. The cost was only $.50 per ride during my stay. There is no way I would have made it up the hills to City Lodge without a cab or the bus.
There is a slight downhill ramp the City Lodge entrance. I stayed in a single room with ensuite bathroom. There is a lift but my room was on the first floor. The door to my room was very difficult to open because it was heavy. The room is small with a little open space to maneuver easily. The area by the bed is a little tight. The bed height is good making it easy to transfer to. The bathroom is big and easily to maneuver around. The sink and toilet height are good. The mirror is too high. There is a shower bench, handheld shower and curtain around the shower.
There is a laundry located on the bottom floor along with a lounge and kitchen. There are also computers for the internet and WIFI available in the rooms for a fee. There is an outside area located on the bottom floor with one step. The staff, especially Joelle, was very helpful with information on the buses, booking tours, and general information. A small fridge is in the room. There is a small store located across the street to pick up grocery items.
Accessibility wise City Lodge would receive a 3.5/5 rating.
Recommendations:
Lower the mirror in bathroom.
Shower needs a nonslip surface on floor.
Small ramp needed to be able to go outside from the bottom floor.
Tell wheelchair users that City Lodge is Iocated on a steep hill.
Wheelchair users looking to stay:
Need to be aware that City Lodge is located on a steep hill. It may be very difficult for some wheelchair users to wheel down to the waterfront.
